Title: Press Release: Extensive Participation by The Capital Markets Authority in " World Investor Week 2024 "
Kuwait, October 6, 2024 - The Capital Markets Authority (CMA), proactively engaged in promotional and awareness-raising activities for the World Investor Week 2024, starting from September 2nd. The event, according to the organizing committee emanating from the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), aims to support investor education and protection, promote financial literacy, and foster learning opportunities for investors. The campaign also seeks to strengthen collaboration among IOSCO members on investor education and protection initiatives.
This is CMA’s fourth consecutive participation in the events of the World Investor Week organized by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) during the month of October each year, starting in 2021, is part of its framework to actively participate in the various events and activities of IOSCO and its various committees.
IOSCO’s 8th edition of the current World Investor Week campaign takes place throughout (7-13 October) it will cover to main topics “ Be part of the global initiative that prioritizes informed investment and financial well-being”, and “ You can access valuable resources and learning opportunities designed to empower you in your financial journey”, it is expected to focus on (Technology and Digital Finance, Crypto Assets and Sustainable Finance) in addition to addressing other issues, summarized as follows:
- “Fraud and Scam Prevention”: Raising awareness of financial fraudulent practices, tools to combat them, and awareness rates from the public to avoid it.
- “Sustainable Finance”: Introducing various aspects of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sustainable finance, responsible investment, and the investment opportunities they offer.
- "Investor Resilience": Providing investors with the tools to face sudden events and changing conditions, especially after diversifying their investments and developing their own strategies to manage potential risks.
- “Digital Assets”: Raising awareness of the risks associated with investment products related to digital assets that require careful evaluation without the impact of financial influencers and celebrities.
- “Investment Basics”: Allow investors to recognize the fundamentals of investment, such as understanding investment returns and risks, diversify investments, balancing assets, digital investment tools, prudent investment decision-making in cases of doubt, market fluctuations, and sudden events.
In addition to focusing on the previous issues, the IOSCO has provided its 100 participating members with a guideline of the activities, which vary between holding two electronic seminars available to the public and translated into local languages, addressing the topics of: technology and digital finance, crypto assets and sustainable finance, in addition to internal workshops implemented by member states to broadcasting informative messages of the week's topics in addition to other issues, such as financial planning and development, and highlighting the activities of member states on various global social media platforms, as well as the websites of: World Investor Week, the World Federation of Exchanges, and the official accounts of member states.
As for the awareness campaign implemented by the CMA as part of its participation for the current year, in addition to broadcasting awareness messages and publications approved by the IOSCO on the social media accounts, it includes broadcasting awareness messages associated to CMA dealing with the topics of the event, especially “financial fraud” as part of a campaign implemented during the same period within the framework of the joint Gulf awareness program “Mulim” that extended until the end of last September. Another campaign related to the controls for promoting public and private subscriptions to raise awareness of the controls for promotional advertisements and the obligation of verifying investment invitations and ensuring that the promoting entities have obtained the required licenses, additionally, an awareness video, television messages, and a community awareness workshop are under preparation for the same topic.
Finally, it should be noted that “World Investor Week” is an annual international awareness initiative launched by “IOSCO” for the first time in 2017, aiming to increase financial literacy levels, enhance investor knowledge and protect investors at the local and global levels.

The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010. Pursuant to the Law, the CMA shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies’ execution of Corporate Governance regulations, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the CMA's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. The CMA also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
