Title: Press Release: Memorandum of Cooperation Signed Between the Capital Markets Authority and Kuwait Economic Society
Kuwait, October 3, 2024 – The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) signed today a memorandum of cooperation with Kuwait Economic Society. In the presence of representatives from both parties. The memorandum was signed by Prof. Ahmad Al-Melhem -Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, the General Manager- representing the CMA, and Mr. Mishari A. Al- Abduljalil - Chairman of Kuwait Economic Society - representing the Society.
This agreement comes in fulfilment of the objectives of both the CMA and the Society, with the aim of establishing a mutual cooperation to serve the economy, enhances economic development in the country, upgrades economic and investment culture in the society, and supports the initiatives that aim to achieve them. This agreement is a recognition by the two parties of the importance of coordinating the efforts of mutual cooperation to achieve their objectives aiming at developing the national economy, supporting the economic and social development directives, and strengthening the foundations of financial inclusion in society.
Moreover, this agreement adopts several fields of cooperation between the two parties, including coordinating joint awareness events such as awareness workshops, lectures, meetings, seminars, and other activities within the framework of CMA’s National Project to Enhance Financial Inclusion and Investment Awareness. It also includes the exchange of knowledge and expertise in studies, research, consultations or surveys, as well as training and qualification.
It is worth noting that the Capital Markets Authority pays attention to expanding the scope of its partnership with civil society institutions and building bridges of cooperation in the fields of mutual interest to achieve the objectives of all parties.
It’s also worth noting that the Capital Markets Authority is responsible for regulating and supervising securities activities, developing Kuwait securities markets, developing capital markets, and protecting investors, which positively reflects on the Kuwaiti economy in general. The Society, on the other hand, is a non-profit organization that brings together experts in the area of economics to develop culture and experience, raises the professional and literary level in the economic field and provides the necessary foundations and pillars to develop them in the State of Kuwait.

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) of Kuwait was established pursuant to Law No. 7 of 2010 Regarding the Establishment of the Capital Markets Authority and Regulating Securities Activities, and its amendments, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010. Under this Law, the CMA regulates and supervises securities activities, ensures transparency, fairness, efficiency, and observes listed companies’ implementation of Corporate Governance regulations. The CMA also protects investors from unfair practices and violations of the CMA's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. The CMA also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
